Dr Balakrishna is a leading consultant psychiatrist in Rockhampton.

Dr Balakrishna trained as a Psychiatrist in the UK and was awarded MRCPsych ( Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists ( London ) in 2010 and completed CCT ( Completion of Core Training ) in 2014.

Dr Balakrishna has been working as a Consultant since 2014 in the NHS and moved to Queensland in 2022 and was awarded FRANZCP in 2024. Dr Balakrishna has worked as a Consultant in dual sub-specialties both General Adult Psychiatry and also Older Age Psychiatry.

Dr Balakrishna’s academic interests is being involved in the teaching and training of medical students, Registrars over the years, and has been a Clinical Supervisor for psychiatry Trainees for many years . He has also held the post of Clinical Director in NHS Trust.

His current areas of interest include assessment and management of Anxiety Disorders, Depressive disorders, Bipolar disorders, Obsessive-compulsive disorder, Psychotic Disorder and Older persons Mental health issues.

Dr Balakrishna believes in working partnership with patients and family and strives hard to provide holistic and evidence based treatment to his patients .
